12.04.09Thanksgiving CelebrationsWe celebrated the time before Thanksgiving break with endless festivity. On Monday the third and fourth graders learned about what the Settlers and Native Americans would have eaten by making a traditional Thanksgiving supper. Sue Bartow organized a meal that included smoked goose, crab, baked chestnuts, pumpkin pie, corn, baked pumpkin and squash, walnuts, grape juice, and a variety of other traditional dishes. But it was not only third and fourth who were cooking up a storm! On Tuesday, the kindergarten, first, second graders, assisted by the seventh and eighth graders, also made dinner, but instead of a traditional feast they created a modern meal. Erin Smetzer organized this event. Christina, a student in fifth grade, said, “I helped two or three of them make the pumpkin pie.” Some of the dishes included Erin’s first turkey, Trevor’s Super Mashed Potatoes, and Mary Beth and Neko’s Famous Corn. Tessa Ralinovsky, eighth grade, summed up the whole day in saying “Helping the kindergartners cook was not only fun but a time to experience bonding between little kids and older kids.”
