Author and Alum Leanna Heiber Visits

This week we got a visit from a McGuffey alum, Leanna Hieber. Hieber now lives in New York City, and has just published a novel, The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker.

Recently she has been on the road promoting her book, and made a stop at McGuffey to talk to students about her journey to become a writer and how they can facilitate their own writing.

“If writing is something you like to do, keep it up,” Hieber urged McGuffey’s students, noting she attempted her first novel at age 12. “It takes a long time so don’t get frustrated.”

Hieber said it took nine years and 18 revisions before she finally sold Strangely Beautiful and is now at work on a sequel. Publisher’s Weekly recently noted that Hieber shows “great potential,” and Booklist wrote: “Hieber has created a character who will resonate with anyone who has found the beauty in being different.”
